What’s so great about alkaline diet food? What factors make a food acid or alkaline? What is the best way to be certain that I have an adequate amount of these foods in my diet to create an optimal pH balance? The article you are currently reading will address these common questions about the alkaline diet.

To start with, the phrase “alkaline diet food” has the same meaning as “alkalizing food” and “alkaline-forming food.” Innumerable people also use the word “alkaline diet food” to describe foods that enhance the body’s alkalinity. Nevertheless, I like to avoid the term “alkaline diet food,” because it can often be confusing.

To consider one example, all types of vinegar are acidic when their pH is checked in the laboratory. Most sorts of vinegar, such as white vinegar, also have an acid-producing consequence on the body. However, apple cider vinegar actually makes the body more alkaline. As you can see from this example, it can be a bad idea to presuppose that all acid foods have an acidifying consequence on the body, or that all alkaline foods have an alkalizing effect on the body. Accordingly, I prefer to utilize the term “alkaline-forming” to refer to foods that have an alkalizing effect on the body.

As for the second question, the thing that makes a food alkaline diet is the occurrence of alkaline-forming minerals. These minerals include calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. Even though all these minerals are necessary for well-being, potassium has the largest consequence on internal pH.

It is interesting to note that our ancient ancestors ingested more potassium than modern humans do, as a consequence of their heavy consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. At the same time, they ate notably less sodium. The typical hunter-gatherer in all probability ate roughly 700 mg of sodium each day. On the other hand, the standard American consumes four to eight times that quantity. For this reason, in spite of the fact that sodium is an alkaline-forming mineral, it would be a bad idea to try to increase your body’s alkalinity by increasing your salt intake.

As a healthier alternative, you must focus on increasing your intake of potassium-rich fruits and vegetables. This will assist in alkalizing your body at the same time it will reduce your likelihood of high blood pressure and water retention by improving your sodium-potassium ratio.
