The New Year brings people to the realization that they need to make some changes in their lives. The big resolution, or change, that many want is to learn how to lose weight for the new year, and what is the best way to do that. There is not textbook answer for the best way to accomplish this since everyone reacts to weight loss differently. Everyone’s body responds differently to weight loss, so it may take some trial and error to find what will help you stay motivated to get the weight off. The two things you will need to focus on is healthy eating and moving more with exercise. These two key components work together to help you reduce and burn calories, which ultimately results in weight loss.

Adding daily exercise to your schedule is sometimes the hardest part of starting a program to lose weight for the new year. Studies have shown that a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day will help increase your metabolism, burn calories to help with weight loss and increase your cardiovascular health. It is easy to make excuses as to why you can’t exercise or don’t have the time. Find an exercise program that works best for you, whether is is walking or jogging around your neighborhood, or hiring a personal trainer to keep your motivated and focused on the goals you want to meet. Increasing your exercise to duration to 60 minutes each day will increase the amount of calories burned, and improve your weight loss efforts.

Along with exercise, you need to evaluate your diet to make sure you are choosing healthy, low calorie options. Many people are simply overeating, which results in weight gain over time. Choose a nutrient rich diet of lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy and complex carbohydrates. Limit your sugar and simple carbohydrate intake, since these are empty calories that give your body no nutrients. These simple diet changes are generally enough to kick-start the fat loss and well on your way to lose weight for the new year. You can also consult with a nutritionist to get help with finding the best diet choices for your body.

Include resistance or strength training into your exercise program. This will build lean muscle mass and tone the body. An increase in strength also helps burn fat more efficiently. You can use hand held dumbbells, resistance bands or your own body weight to get desired results from strength training. Some good starting exercises include push ups, pull ups, lunges and squats.

There is no magic cure to get the fat loss you want. It takes hard work and dedication, along with the desire to stay motivated so you reach the weight loss goals you have set for yourse
