The lemonade diet sounds too good to be true. You only drink liquids and you will lose tons of weight? Well, the liquids you drink have to be strictly prepared. They consist of a combination of fresh squeezed lemons, non-fluoridated water, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. It is consumed every morning. The only thing one is allowed to consume on this diet other than the concoction are diuretic tea and non-fluoridated water.

It is said that if one follows this diet, one’s body will cleanse itself over a period of days and flush all the fat and toxic substances sitting in the colon. It is the goal of this diet to cleanse the digestive tract and give it a rest.

Does the lemonade diet work? Well yes and no. It works because the user is not consuming any calories other than liquid calories. Is the weight loss directly linked to the diet itself or just the absence of food in general, that is hard to say.

It would stand to reason that any diet that requires that you do not eat at all will promote losing weight, of course once the dieter starts eating again it is fair to say that the weight will start piling on again. It is purported to peel off pounds, increase energy, and increase overall wellness. Some folks swear that it has improved their health and helped them to lose weight.

The few minor side effects that come from this diet are headaches, an upset stomach, and dizziness which are all related to starving yourself.

There are no long-term effects if this diet is short. If you stay on the diet for too long, you can suffer serious problems from malnutrition. The human body was not meant to be sustained off of lemons, water, and maple syrup.

Is the lemonade diet safe or unsafe? That’s up to you to decide.
