Mostly cereals, pasta or grains have a higher starchy content which yields more energy when consumed while vegetables has low energy content but still provides the body with various nutrients and vitamins.
They are classified into simple and complex sugars.Simple sugars break down easily into glucose to give energy through the blood and the sources are certain fruits, and grains.Also complex carbohydrates are hard to break down but also find its way into the blood where they are paramount in the growth and repairs of body cells.However, most whole wheat grains that has fibers and vegetables are examples.
When carbohydrates are eaten, they break down into glucose which is sugar absorbed into the blood that produces energy. However, this glucose is further broken down into glycogen and stored in the liver for later use.With high rate of energy consuming activities daily, glucose in the blood is used up faster and needs constant replacement which triggers off hunger pangs for more glucose to supply more energy.That is the importance of a high carbohydrate diet to service the brain to perform properly.
A great carbohydrate diet is very important for every age group for both body mass and high energy content.Though its effective to know ones basal metabolic rate to consume according to the rate to be able to build up the body mass.However, sportsmen and women also need a high carbohydrate diet to gain high energy content to be able to perform well.Even those that wants to build muscle and lose weight also need carbohydrate in their food to be able to attain their desires.But those with diseases like diabetes and hypoglycemia should watch their sugar intake to control their insulin level.
It is wise to consult a nutritionist to give directions on the basic specifications of recommended daily allowance– quantities to consume on daily basis to avoid obesity or to control diabetes or hypoglycemia . Carbohydrate will always be an important part of nutrition like protein, fatty acids and vitamins. For body mass and proper cell growth these nutrients are necessary but should be taken accordingly to avoid certain problems such as anorexia .
