As a mother I feel like I am constantly fighting the weight battle.  I’m a busy mom of two young children and am constantly running around, racing between leaving my kids at dance class and picking them up from a friend’s house.   It’s a difficult challenge to keep focused and keep my weight loss in check. I know there are tons of general things we as moms can do to keep the weight from piling on.  We all know that we should drink more water and eat healthier foods, but did you know that weight loss is just a strategy, and the ultimate goal is being healthy?

Below is a list of 10 great weight loss tips for women:

1.     Have you ever tried consuming fruit and veggies as your entire meal instead of having fruit and veggies just for a snack?  Give it a try – it’s a great way to have a fresh and light meal.

2.     Vegetables are good, but lush green vegetables are the best.

3.     Standing is better than sitting and running is even better than standing.  Try standing while you view TV with your kids, you may tend to view less TV.  Even better, grab the baby stroller and go for a run instead of viewing TV at all.

4.     Use a smaller plate to control your portions.  I like to use my kids’ child-sized plates for all my meals.  I really do eat fewer calories.

5.     Cook as many meals as you can earlier in the week.   When your day has been hectic and you are exhausted at dinner-time with the choice of fast food, or preparing a meal – just grab a quick, healthy, smaller portion-size meal that you have cooked the night before.   Might just save you from choosing the drive-through meal instead.

6.     Avoid the late-night snack. I have such a hard time going to bed late and grabbing a piece of chocolate on the way.  I try to down a big cup of ice water instead.

7.     Drink ice water, and a ton of it.  I try to drink a full 8oz cup of ice water before eating any meals.  Filling up on water is a great way to help you eat less.

8.     When you are overly tired, it’s much harder for your body to actually shed pounds.   You need sleep and you need to relax .  So rather than making sure you get your vigorous exercise in for the day; after you do chores, clean house, and take care of the kids, just slow down, and give yourself time to breathe.  I even like to pretend I don’t see the toys all over the floor or the laundry still waiting to be ironed and just get in bed at an earlier time.

9.     Mix up your workouts and you will fool your body, which will help you shed weight sooner.   I like to design my workouts with my kids in mind – delaying until they get out of school to go for a long walk or swim with them.

10.  Remember that 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat.  What you put in your mouth is more important than how long you exercise.
