Actress gone country singer Gwyneth Paltrow is also known for her very slender figure, but has her diet lead to a bonier situation than she can handle?

The Gwyneth Paltrow diet may have contributed to her extreme vitamin D deficiency, which has caused the actress to suffer from a condition called osteopenia. Osteopenia is a condition in which bone density is low, but not low enough to be classified as osteoporosis, though it is a precursor to osteoporosis.

Why would the Gwyneth Paltrow diet cause her to have low bone density and become subject to brittle bones and fractures? Well, the Gywneth Paltrow diet is a macrobiotic diet which consists mainly of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and a bit of fish. The diet has kept the actress super slim over the years, but is it really harmful or the most extreme diet?

Actually, the macrobiotic diet being a mostly vegetarian type diet, is rather healthful. Some regard the Gwyneth Paltrow diet as being a way of life as macrobiotic means “great life.”

The Gwyneth Paltrow diet is most definitely high in fiber, which is a good thing for weight loss and heart health. It may also help prevent cancer, and the high amounts of phytochemicals from all the vegetables and fruits are certainly great for fighting free radicals. Free radicals are behind many diseases as well as premature aging. The Gwyneth Paltrow diet could be considered an anti-aging diet!

The diet also promotes weight loss because the Gwyneth Paltrow diet is low in saturated fats and therefore, pretty low in calories. The fats in the diet are mainly mono and polyunsaturated fats which help increase good cholesterol and decrease bad cholesterol.

The bony situation for Gwyneth? Is the Gwyneth Paltrow diet the cause of Gwyn’s osteoporosis? Well, the diet is low in calcium and vitamin D because of the lack of dairy products (which are fortified in vitamin D). However, one could tweak this macrobiotic diet a bit and still have healthy bones.

Since the diet includes plenty of vegetables, one could easily eat enough dark leafy greens to get an adequate amount of calcium, especially if they add apple cider vinegar to the greens to aid in the release of calcium and therefore, help the body absorb it better. The Gwyneth Paltrow diet should also include a vitamin D supplement and one other ingredient that is as natural as it gets!

The sun! Our bodies produce vitamin D all on their own with the aid of the sun’s rays. Just looking at Gwyneth’s youthful (yet very pale) skin, one can see she probably doesn’t spend a lot of time in the sun to get this much needed vitamin for bone health.

Whether you follow this macrobiotic diet or another weight loss diet, you still need some sunlight to ensure you do not become deficient in vitamin D and end up with brittle bones like Gwyneth!
