Positive affirmations are a powerful tool to get the law of attraction working for you in manifesting the thin, strong body you want. But there are definitely plenty of “wrong” ways to use affirmations, or perhaps I should call them “ineffective” ways. Some people think that just reciting an affirmation is enough to transform their body, but the words you say have no power to change anything. Rather, all of the power contained in an affirmation is in the way it makes you feel.

Before we get into more effective ways to use affirmations, take a minute to think about what you are really trying to achieve by using them. A slimmer body might be the first thing that popped into your mind. The law of attraction works according to what you focus on the most. Whatever you focus on the most, you are going to trigger feelings that match, and the law of attraction is going to return situations and events that match those feelings.

Are you constantly putting yourself down and feeling frustrated about your weight? Do you often voice complaints like these: “I hate being overweight! I’m so sick of these fat rolls. I’m tired of feeling this way and looking this way”? Can you feel the negative emotions that those statements trigger within you? The problem is that every time your thoughts move in that direction and you start feeling negatively about your body, you keep attracting the conditions that will keep you stuck feeling that way. To attract a better outcome (better body), you need to choose better thoughts that make you feel better.

Another problem with affirmations is that people try to phrase them in the present tense – which can be a good thing, but not always. For example, affirmations like these may resemble some you’ve said before: “I weigh 115 pounds. I love my body. I wear a sleek size 6.” But do you really believe that those things are true right now? Probably not. So while you are saying them, your subconscious mind is resisting them and nothing can change.

One good way to overcome this resistance is to keep saying the affirmation repeatedly all day long. Eventually you will dissolve the resistance and start feeling as if the affirmation is true, and then it will be able to manifest. But that can be a very long, drawn-out process. There is an even easier way – just change the affirmations so they feel more believable.

Affirmations can be re-worded to make them many times more powerful if you know how. Let’s try it with the above examples. “I can imagine what it feels like to weigh 130 pounds. I am learning to love my body more each day. I enjoy wearing clothes that make me feel good!” See how these affirmations don’t cause a feeling of resistance? They don’t grate against your existing beliefs about your body, but they do help you start resonating on a slimmer, lighter, happier energetic frequency. Yes, the same frequency that is being emitted by slender, fit people.

The bottom line is to create affirmations that trigger positive feelings within you. If it makes you feel bad in any way (or even neutral) then the affirmation needs some further work before it will be effective. No matter what, your objective is to tune into the essence of the outcome you are trying to attract, and focus on feeling that way now. If you do that enough, the outcome eventually becomes yours.
